TRICARE: Senators Murray, Blunt, Gillibrand, Rubio Bill Guarantees Health Coverage for Military Children With Developmental Disabilities
AUCD applauds Senators Murray, Blunt, Gillibrand, and Rubio for introducing legislation to provide behavioral health services for individual with developmental disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum.
The Caring for Military Children with Developmental Disabilities Act of 2014 requires TRICARE, the Department of Defense and retiree health program for members of the uniformed services and their families, to provide coverage for behavioral health treatments, including applied behavior analysis (ABA).

New Act Early Ambassadors Selected
30 new Act Early Ambassadors have been selected from a group of highly qualified applicants to represent twenty-nine states. Ambassadors will serve as a state, territory or organizational point-of-contact for CDC's national "Learn the Signs. Act Early." (LTSAE) program; support the work of Act Early Teams and other state or national initiatives to improve early identification of developmental delay and disability; and promote adoption and integration of LTSAE resources, including materials to support developmental monitoring.

Individuals with Pre-Existing Conditions May be Eligible for Special Enrollment Period
Individuals who had pre-existing conditions and were enrolled in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) are now eligible for a special enrollment period (SEP). Although open enrollment ended March 31, coverage under PCIP ended on April 30, 2014. CMS issued guidance at the end of last month indicating that individuals previously covered by PCIP would have a SEP for 60 days (until June 30) to obtain coverage through the marketplace.

Combating Autism Reauthorization Act of 2014 Introduced in the House
Bill includes five year continued authorization for funding LEND and DBP training programs
On Friday, May 9, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Mike Doyle (D-PA) introduced a bill to reauthorize the Combating Autism Act for five years. The bill, HR 4631, has 35 bipartisan cosponsors.
